Global Radiology CME is honored to welcome Donald Resnick, MD, FACR as faculty for Imaging in Switzerland 2027. Widely regarded as one of the founding figures of modern musculoskeletal radiology, Dr. Resnick has profoundly influenced the specialty through his pioneering research, landmark publications, and extraordinary dedication to education. For more than five decades, his work has shaped the way radiologists diagnose musculoskeletal disease and established many of the imaging principles that remain fundamental to clinical practice today.
Dr. Resnick is Professor of Radiology and Chief Emeritus of Musculoskeletal Radiology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Resnick joined the University of California, San Diego in 1976, where he developed one of the world's premier musculoskeletal imaging divisions. Under his leadership, UC San Diego became an internationally recognized center of excellence for musculoskeletal radiology, attracting fellows, visiting scholars, and radiologists from around the world.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Resnick has made groundbreaking contributions to the understanding and imaging of arthritis, metabolic bone disease, skeletal dysplasias, crystal deposition disease, sports injuries, orthopedic disorders, and spinal pathology. His research helped define the role of radiography, CT, MRI, and image-guided procedures in evaluating complex musculoskeletal disease, and many of the imaging signs, diagnostic criteria, and classification systems introduced through his work continue to be used by radiologists worldwide.
An internationally acclaimed educator, Dr. Resnick has authored or edited more than 20 textbooks and over 500 peer-reviewed scientific publications. His classic textbook, Diagnosis of Bone and Joint Disorders, remains one of the most authoritative references in musculoskeletal imaging and has educated generations of radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, and rheumatologists around the world. His lectures are renowned for combining encyclopedic knowledge with practical, case-based teaching that immediately translates into improved clinical practice.
Dr. Resnick has received many of radiology's highest honors, including the Gold Medals of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), and the International Skeletal Society (ISS). He is a Past President of the International Skeletal Society and has been recognized worldwide for his lifetime contributions to musculoskeletal imaging and radiology education.
A perennial highlight of every Global Radiology CME conference, Dr. Resnick's internationally acclaimed Donald Resnick MSK Quiz has become a conference tradition, challenging participants with fascinating cases while reinforcing practical diagnostic pearls. Few individuals have had a greater impact on the evolution of musculoskeletal radiology, and his enduring legacy continues to influence how radiologists around the world learn, teach, and practice MSK imaging.
