PD Dr. med. Jan Vosshenrich, EDiR

Associate Professor of Radiology & Senior Physician

University Hospital Basel, Switzerland

Dr. Vosshenrich is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Senior Physician at University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. His clinical and academic work focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced MRI techniques into clinical radiology workflows. His clinical expertise spans both musculoskeletal and body MRI, with particular interests in advanced acquisition techniques and accelerated imaging. He completed fellowship training in both musculoskeletal and abdominal imaging, followed by an advanced research scholarship at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York City, where he focused on deep learning-enhanced, ultra-fast musculoskeletal MRI. His work in this field aims to optimize MRI protocols, allowing high-quality scans to be completed in under 10 minutes while reducing motion artifacts and improving clinical efficiency. Another major focus of Dr. Vosshenrich’s research is sustainability in radiology. His research examines the energy consumption and carbon footprint of medical imaging, including strategies to reduce energy use in CT, MRI, and PET/CT, as well as the clinical application of low-field-strength MRI systems.

An avid educator and academic contributor, Dr. Vosshenrich has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles. He serves as an Associate Editor of Radiology and on the editorial boards of other leading imaging journals, including the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) and European Radiology. He was selected as the 2026 ARRS Lee F. Rogers Fellow in Radiology Journalism by the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) and has received the AJR Distinguished Reviewer Award and the Radiology Editor’s Recognition Award with Special Distinction in consecutive years. Additional honors include the Young Investigator Award and the Jubilee Award of the Swiss Society of Radiology, as well as the Distinguished Educator Award from the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). Holding the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR), Dr. Vosshenrich regularly teaches on body and musculoskeletal imaging at international radiology meetings, including the International Diagnostic Course Davos (IDKD). He contributes to major radiological societies as a committee member, abstract reviewer, and moderator.
